The orange-coloured areas show the modern spread of the European branch of the family : Latin, Greek, Germanic, Celtic (nearly extinct), Slavonic. The pink-colourd areas show the spread of the Indo-Iranian branch derived from Sanskrit : mainly Hindi and Bengali (old Iranian is extinct)
