- 400'000 years ago, it seems that there was already somebody around in Europe. The little black spots on the map show where there was somebody around and we can see one in the south of England especially as the lines _ _ _ _ _ show the limits of the seashores and we can see that England was attached to the continent; which was convenient because so the continental cavemen didn't have to take the ferry to go over to Britain ! ha ha ha very funny ! But life must have been a bit uncomfortable as most of the place was still widely covered in ice

The initial Europeans that have been identified were Neanderthals - 250'000 to - 30'000
Though there was already somebody around even before - 250'000. In approx. 30'000 some new tourists, who weren't Neanderthals but homos sapiehs like us nowadays, turned up.

Scientists say that those ice age Europeans were shorter than us (166cm guys and 154cm females), very strong and powerful, and ... that their brain was 12 % larger than a modern one ! Does that mean that all of them were potential Einsteins ?

They were skilled hunters but it was difficult to hunt in those days because they didn't have very efficient
weapons . .
Paleonthologists say that Neanderthals were certainly capable of speech but their communication kills
were not as advanced as our own. They also seemed to lack an understanding of abstract concepts
such as art . . . so, not yet the beginning of English !
